PEARL’S BEAUTY SALON
Cities are like oysters; they need a shell to protect their unique cultures. Just as only one in ten thousand oysters produces a pearl, not all cities shine brightly. When something foreign intrudes, like a grain of sand, it can inspire a city to layer itself in culture and history. In 1841, when the British took over Hong Kong, its people learned to adapt, building new layers of identity. When the city was returned to China in 1997, they had to find even more ways to protect themselves. For Maru, Hong Kong is more than a place; it’s a treasure trove of memories and dreams. Now, she reaches deep into its essence, searching for that precious connection. What comes out of this journey is the play itself.
